This has the effect of increasing the total allowable sign area from 86
square feet to 90 square feet.
The applicant then proposed an alternative signage layout for the building that would
comply with the 90 square foot sign area. The alternative plans remove the word
"Valvoline" from the front (west) facade, and removal of the "V" logo from the south
building fagade. These changes, taken together with the proposed 55 square foot
freestanding sign, would meet the 90 square foot maximum assigned to the building by
the Sign Ordinance.
With regard to the freestanding sign, the applicants are proposing amonument-style
base constructed of rock-faced concrete block. It was noted at the time of the CVS
approvals that the City would like to see upgrades to the Valvoline sign consistent with
the CVS signage. The applicant notes that the brick base on the CVS sign matches the
CVS building materials, and is seeking the rock-faced block to match the Valvoline
building.
The Planning Commission recommended approval of the signage with these new
changes.
