<br />NEW BOARDWALK <br />In partnership with the City of Maplewood, the new boardwalk design will be constructed with <br />minimal maintenance materials and will be ten feet in width (to adhere to the grant requirements). <br />The new boardwalk will also be installed with helical piles that will withstand the elements better <br />than the existing floating system boardwalk. <br /> <br />BUDGET IMPACT <br />Funds have been budgeted in the Capital Improvement Plan for the boardwalk replacement. Project <br />estimates at the beginning of 2025 were: <br />• Materials - $197,948.97 <br />• Removal - $13,000 <br />• Installation – $110,000 <br />• Soft Costs - $70,000 <br />• Estimated Total - $390,948.97 <br /> <br />This project was identified in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) under Project Number 28 and <br />due to the cost, staff began to explore alternative funding sources. Project expenses are being split <br />with the City of Maplewood based on the amount of boardwalk on city property ie. Little Canada <br />60% and Maplewood 40%. <br /> <br />TIMELINE <br />100% plan set completion and project bidding are tentatively scheduled for Fall 2025. Project <br />Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Accept the $250,000 Local Trail Connections Grant from the MnDNR for the replacement of the <br />Thunder Bay Trail Boardwalk Project. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />• Award Letter <br />• Project Checklist
