MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL

NOVEMBER 23, 2009
AMEND Mayor Blesener opened the Public Hearing to consider a request for an
PUD FOR Amendment to PUD Permit for a Comprehensive Sign Pla~r at 2768 aild
COMPRE- 2770 Rice Street as requested by Bill Mellgren. Blesener noted that the
HENSIVE Planning Commission has recommended approval of the Comprehensive
SIGN PLAN - Sign Plan subject to total signage area remaining at 375 square feet, and
2768/2770 RICE subject to signage meeting the City's Architectural Guidelines.
STREET -
MELLGREN The City Planner reviewed the Code Enforcement Officer's November 6,
2009 report relative to this application indicating that the property owner
is requesting to reconfigure signage at his property to accommodate two
additional tenants. The property's current Comprehensive Sign Plan
allows three wall signs on the building and two pylons, not to exceed 375
square feet, the maximum allowed for this property under the Code. The
property owner has reconfigured the interior space and is now requesting
to expand signage to accommodate tenant needs via two additional wall
signs and an additional cabinet on the pylon sign. The applicant has
requested 400 square feet in signage, but indicated at the Planning
Commission meeting that he would reduce signage size to conform to the
375 square foot maximum allowed. The Planner also noted that the
applicant does not identify materials, colors, or design of the signs and it is
staff's recommendation that architectural guidelines be complied with.
Mr. Mellgren agreed to comply with the 375 square foot signage
maximum and indicated that he would submit signage plans conforming to
the City's Architectural Guidelines.
Montour indicated that his concern was the haphazard appearance of the
signage and hoped that future tenant signage would have some
consistency. Mellgren indicated that he would work toward more signage
consistency as tenants change over.
Blesener asked if there would be an electronic message board on the pylon
sign. Mellgren replied that there would not.
There was no one else present wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion by McGraw, seconded by Keis, the public hearing was
closed.
Mr. Keis introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2009-11-277 - APPROVING ANAMENDMENT
TO PLANNED UNIT DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT FOR
COMPREHENSIVE SIGN PLAN SUBJECT TO COMPLIANCE
WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE CODE
2
