MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br /> PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> LITTLE CANAllA, MINNESOTA <br /> January 7, 2010 <br /> Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation <br /> Commission of the City of Little Canada, Mimlesota, was held on the 7th day of January, <br /> 2010, in the council chambers of the city center located at 515 Little Canada Road East in <br /> said city. <br /> Chair I,,inda Fahey called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and the following members of <br /> the commission were present: <br /> MEMBERS PKF;SENT: Ms. Linda Pahey, Chair <br /> Ms. Kuth Steinwall <br /> Ms. Patti Sullivan <br /> Mr. Dan Slain <br /> Mr. Tom Maida <br /> Ms. Katie Lolmaugh <br /> MBMBBRS ABSEN'T': Mr. Kevin Steinert <br /> ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Bill Sanders, Park Consultant <br /> Mr. James Morelan, Park & Recreation Director <br /> Ms. Dotty Norgard, Recording Secretary <br /> <br /> MINUTES: Steinwall made a motion to accept the minutes from the December 3, 2009 meeting. <br /> Seconded by Slain. Motion carried. <br /> NEW <br /> BUSINESS: EMBRACE OPEN SPACE I'RF,SF,NTATION -Mark Schiffman, Drawbridge <br /> Consulting <br /> Chair Fahey introduced our guest, Mark Schiffman. Schiffman talked about his background <br /> in city government and with the Met Council and University of Minnesota. He thanked the <br /> Park & Recreation Commission members for the role they play in city park planning. He <br /> went on to comment that he reviewed the city's Comprehensive Plan and he, again, <br /> complimented the city and the park commission members for their thoughtful insight into <br /> the future in realizing the great value par]<s offer to residents. <br /> Open Space includes all parks, golf courses, lakes, ponds, wetlands and parks. There are <br /> many benefits to having open spaces within a city, including providing an animal habitat and <br /> an interest for growth for new residential development. <br /> A 2007 analysis of property and home values in Washington and Hennepin Counties with <br /> open space in close proximity showed that open space is a positive factor in providing an <br /> Page 1 of 4 <br /> <br />
