MINUTES <br /> <br /> Parks & Recreation Commission <br /> <br /> January 7, 2010 <br /> have many boardwalk trails. Sanders agreed that any trail in this area would enhance the <br /> total area acid preserve wetlands for an animal habitat with plenty of wetlands and open <br /> space. Fahey commented that the original development plan was designed with smaller lots <br /> and likes this uew proposal with the larger lot sizes. <br /> Sanders suggested to the commission that they propose a dedicated park charge for this <br /> development for a possible future trail between lots 2 & 4 or along the west property line in <br /> lieu of a land donation. Steinwall made a motion to recommend the park charge fee from <br /> the Gervais Woods Development and a trail easement to the wetland area. Maida seconded <br /> the motion, motion passed 6-0. <br /> OLD <br /> BUSINESS: PIONEER PARK - CENTERVILLE ROAD ENTRANCE ENHANCEMENTS - <br /> PLANTERS <br /> Morelan stated that at prior meetings Sanders had proposed limestone planters be made for <br /> this Pioneer Park entrance area. Morelan said that he has since been made awa~•e of four <br /> large stone planters that are currently owned by the city that could possibly be used for the <br /> north side of the south park entrance. He stated That the area south of the driveway might <br /> still be an area for a limestone planter. I3e also recommended putting the planters on a <br /> limestone pad or a brick base for ease of turf maintenance <br /> Sanders stated these planters were similar to the other planters throughout the city and were <br /> park-like in appearance and could be filled with plants that hang over the sides of the <br /> planters. Morelan suggested Sanders check to see how these planters could be used in the <br /> entrance of Pioneer Park. <br /> THUNDERBAY PARK IMPROVEMENTS <br /> Fahey asked Morelan if the City had approved the recommended improvements for the <br /> 1 hunder Bay Park in the 2010 budget. Morelan stated that the city has not met yet on the <br /> final Capital Improvements for 2010 but did say that the Little Canada Recreation <br /> Association has offered to help sponsor the new playground equipment for the "thunder Bay <br /> Park. <br /> OTHER: Morelan reported the Park & Recreation Department sponsored an adult trip to the MN Wild <br /> Hockey game on January 6°i. Thirty-five adults went on the bus to the game. The LCRA <br /> will be Taking the children who are enrolled in the basketball program to a Timberwolves <br /> game on January 31 They will receive the bus ride, ticket to game, hot dog, and pop. The <br /> Timberwolves are playing the New York Knicks. The coaches, assistant coaches, and Parks <br /> Department employees will be chaperoning the event. <br /> Sullivan reported on her meeting with the Phalen "frail Group. "]'heir meetings are also on <br /> the first Thursday of the month, so are the same nights as the P&R Commission meetings. <br /> She said the first meeting was held earlier this evening and everyone introduced themselves <br /> and it is a laz•ge group.
