MINUTES

Parks & Recreation Commission
March 4, 201.0
7. Develop fee schedule for fire re-inspections
8. Pursue funding for reconstruction of Rice Street Bridge at 694.
Fahey commented that the Animal Control Policy was for controls on tur]<eys, deer and
geese. The streetscape plan for Little Canada Road included the new railing replacement for
the 35E bridge.
RONDEAU PARK STORMWATER PLANS
Sanders pointed out on a large map of Rondeau Park, located off Jackson Street and Bryan
Street, the proposed stormwater improvements. The city proposes to install curb and gutters
along Bryan Avenue and Jackson Street that will make the water runoff move faster. They
are planning to make a pond in Rondeau Park to catch this runoff water. They plan to keep
the central portion of the park as an open area. They will be removing the cottonwood trees
along the north side of the park and will replace the area with some plants and shrubs. This
project is scheduled to be completed this summer.
OLD
BUSINESS: PIONEER PARK - CENTERVILLE ROAD ENTRANCE ENHANCEMENTS -
PLANTERS
Sanders stated the drawings of the proposed improvements to the entrance of Pioneer Park
off Centerville Road have been completed. He is recommending using the concrete pots the
city already has available and placing Them each on a 5 x 5 brick base. He is also proposing
replacing the long planters along Centerville Road with a large limestone planter. This
planter would be placed about 15' from the park sign and would be placed out of the shaded
area. That area currently has some perennials that could be replanted in another area.
Chair Fahey asked Morelan how this project would be funded. Morelan replied stating there
currently is no funding proposed for this project but there would be no cost for the concrete
planters and the building of the limestone planter would possibly be the only expense. The
plants for these planters would be added to the city's spring plant order.
Sullivan suggested the commissioners evaluate the vegetation that should be kept in This area
when the commissioners go on the spring park tour. Sanders agreed that an assessment of
what is needed should be made and then set a budget for any suggested needs.
OTHF,R
Morelan had distributed the 2010 Friends of the Parks Tree Sale flier. He stated some
residents purchase trees from this program and donate them to the city to be planted in the
city parks.
