MINUTES

Parks & Recreation Commission

March 4, 207.0
playground equipment could be made within 30 days from the placing of the order. The
timing for the trail/basketball court project would be determined by the city as they would
probably combine it with other city asphalt projects, possibly the middle of May.
7arembinski asked if the total cost of the'fhunder Bay Park improvements would be
$75,000. Sanders stated that was correct but he stated the trail and basketball court proposed
addition might cost less than originally estimated.
Fahey explained that adding the basketball court to the park was an idea from a youth group
called Quest for Power who canvassed the Thunder Bay Park residents with a survey on
adding a basketball court to the Thunder Bay Park. Fahey stated there was a neighborhood
meeting also to discuss the basketball court addition at a Park & Commission Meeting last
fall. All the people who attended the neighborhood meeting gave a very positive response to
the proposed improvements to the park. She had received a complaint from one resident who
did not like the basketball court addition and who also had a concern over the drainage of
the park.
Sanders asked the commissioners if they would be interested in striping an area designed for
hopscotch on the basketball court. The consensus was it might be a nice addition to the park
area. A sandbox was also suggested to be included, but the possible mixing of sand in the
woodchips would probably not be recommended to put it in the playground area, but
Sanders stated it could possibly be added in a separate area.
The 7arembinski family thanked the commissioners for the plaque and the Thunder Bay
Park improvement information and left the meeting.
Steinwall made a motion to accept the bid of the Landscape Structures Company for the
removal and installation of the playground equipment for "Thunder Bay Park, seconded by
Steinert, and the motion carried unanimously.
NEW
BUSINESS: 20.10 GOALS REPORT
Chair Fahey reported she and Sullivan attended the city's goal setting workshop.
