MINUTTS

Parks & Recreation Commission

April 1, 2010
Sullivan asked if the park and recreation staff ever set up practice boards for tennis players to
use on the tennis courts. Morelan replied that it has not been a practice to set that up but they
do have one that they use for the youth tennis lessons program that they could leave by the
tennis courts. He has never had a request to use the board in the past, but will have parks
personnel mount it inside of the fence at the Spooner Park tennis courts.
Sullivan asked Sanders how the Troutbrook Trail plans were progressing. Sa~rders stated the
plans are moving along well and the Met Colmcil has requested cost estimates from the
committee which is a good sign the funds are also being discussed. Morelan stated that the
person who was assisting us from the National Parlcs Service was sent to Omaha for a couple
months and is back working on this project again now. Meetings are being scheduled to
continue discussions on this trail project.
Lohnaugh asked Morelan if there is currently a disc golf area in any of the city parks.
Morelan replied that there is not but commented that Acorn Park in Roseville has it available.
Chair Fahey commented that the Skate Park is being well used with the nice weather.
Morelan agreed that is busy all the time and it was a very good investment to build the Skate
Park as many youth use the facility. The equipment has weathered very well through the
winter months.
Steinwall reported there is graffiti on the inside of the slide at Rondeau Park on Jackson
Street. Morelan replied that he would have the city staff remove the markings. Chair Fahey
said she recalled at one of the previous years' goal setting sessions that it was suggested to
have a graffiti ordinance written for the city. Morelan stated other cities have adopted such
an ordinance requiring property owners to remove any and all graffiti within a specific time
frame. After more discussion, Chair Fahey requested that the city adopt, with the
recommendation from this commission, a graffiti ordinance for the city.
ADJOURN Upon motion by Lolmaugh, seconded by Sullivan, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
R//espectfully submitted,
f:~f~~ j~~~~
Dotty Norgard
Recording Secretary
