<br /> MINUTES <br /> <br /> Parks &r Recreation Commission <br /> <br /> April 1, 2010 <br /> OTHER Chair Pahey asked if the details with the Richie Development had been worked out with <br /> having the lots partially in the cities of both Maplewood and Little Canada. Morelan stated he <br /> assumes it has all been resolved with the two cities as the project has been approved and <br /> construction has begun. Morelan also stated that there will be a 20 foot easement granted for <br /> a possible future trail. Chair Fahey confirmed that the city would be receiving the park <br /> charge fee for this new development. <br /> Morelan commented that the Little Canada Recreation Association approved the new <br /> scoreboard for the Gilbertson ballfield at their last meeting. The scoreboard will be the old <br /> fashioned style where the numbers and letters are hand set and is being handmade by a local <br /> resident. <br /> The Spooner Upper and Lower shelters are almost completely filled for weekend rentals for <br /> the summer months. Sullivan inquired about the rental fees for each park Morelan said the <br /> cost for the Spooner Upper shelter is $l05 per weekend day and Spooner Lower is $43 for <br /> a~iy day. The city also rents out the east side of Pioneer Park on Desoto Street for $33 per <br /> day and, on a very rare occasion because of it not being set up for picnics, have also rented <br /> the Main Shelter area of Pioneer Park. <br /> Because of the early spring Morelan reported work has already begun in the parks. The <br /> tennis nets are ah•eady placed on the tennis courts. Toilets are currently mravailable in the <br /> parks as staff is currently negotiating prices with different vendors for the season rentals. <br /> The improvements on the Waterworks Trail are at a stand still because of issues with St. Paul <br /> Regional Water Services and the railroad over liability issues Morelan reported. <br /> Morelan said the summer youth activities are in full swing with seven teams for youth <br /> baseball, the same as last year. "I'he 55 Alive Driving Course is filled for the morning session <br /> on April 19, but there are still open seats available for the evening 4-hour refresher on <br /> April 20 and the 8-hour beginner course on April 17. <br /> Morelan invited everyone to the Market Place Morning Talks held at the Marketplace Bingo <br /> Hall on April 14 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. There will be free blood pressure tests from 8:45 to <br /> 9:20 with the Healthy Breakfast ideas as the main program for this month. Food will be <br /> prepared for sampling. This program is co-sponsored by flee Roseville Area Senior Program, <br /> Little Canada Parks and Recreation Department, Golden Living Center- Lake Ridge, <br /> Lyngblomsten Health Care Facility and Rose of Sharon Manor. Complimentary treats and <br /> coffee are provided every month by the LCRA and LC Bingo Hall. <br /> Morelan recommended the commissioners schedule a spring tour in conjunction with their <br /> May 6`~' meeting, meeting at the city hall parking lot at 6:00 p.m. Steinert agreed and <br /> requested it be scheduled for next meeting.
