MINUTES

CITY COUNCIL

APRIL 28, 2010
compliance with the recommendations of the City Planner as outlined in
his report dated March 31, 2010.
The City Planner reported that Mr. Schwietz is proposing construction of a
new garage consisting of 1,500 square feet of garage space to replace an
existing detached 1,200 square foot garage that will be removed from the
property. The new garage will be located slightly north of the existing
garage. The Planner indicated that the new garage will be attached to the
house with a covered breezeway for two reasons. The first is that the
Code discourages detached garages in front of a house. The second is
relates to the use of the space in the structure as well as the heights. With
an attached garage, the second floor can be used as storage space and will
not count toward the 1,500 square foot maximum garage space. Also the
height of the structure can be up to 30 feet, while a detached garage is
limited to a 15 foot height.
The Planner reported that Mr. Schwietz has indicated that in time the
existing home will be demolished and replaced. At that time, the new
garage will be attached to the new house, and the exterior of the structures
will match.
"The City Planner stated that the proposal appeaes to meet all Code
requirements for single-family, including the Shoreland District
requirements. The Planner noted that the parcel is a large one, and the
requirement that no more than 30% of the site can be covered by
impervious surfaces should not be an issue.
Blesener asked abut the installation of windows in the second story over
the garage. The Planner commented that it would not matter if windows
were installed in the upper level or not as long as the shucture is attached
to the house.
There was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on
this matter.
[Jpon motion by Boss, seconded by Keis, the public hearing was closed.
Mr. Keis introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2010-4-102 -APPROVING THE CONDITIONAL
USE PERMIT TO ALLOW THE REPLACEMENT OF AN EXISTING
GARAGE WITHA NEW GARAGE CONSISTING OF UP TO 1,500
SQUARE FEET AT 620 KELLER PARKWAY, AS REQUESTED BY
MR. DAVID SCHWIETZ, SUBJECT TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE
2
