MINUTES

CITY COUNCIL

MAY 12, 2010
may allow for the installation of sidewalks along this segment of Little
Canada Road.
Blesener suggested that if Lanes are reduced, it may be possible to recycle
the road leaving the north edge where it presently is, freeing up right-of
way for a sidewalk along the south side of the street.
The City Administrator suggested that these issues could be addressed as
part of an RFP for Little Canada Road sri•eetscape, or he and the City
Engineer could work with the County and determine the range of
possibilities. Once the information is compiled, it could be included in an
RFP for streetscape. The Administrator suggested that while it may slow
down the process, the result may be a better project.
The City Administrator indicated that as part of putting the RFP together,
he has pulled together photos and aerials of the focal points along Little
Canada Road from Lakeshore Avenue to Edgerton Street. These would be
included in the RFP document.
There was discussion of the possibility of segmenting the RFP separating
it into two projects, Little Canada Road on either side of the freeway. The
City Adminisri•ator indicated that he also needs to address the County
Road B-2/Rice Street area planning for landscaping and streetscape
elements for that intersection once the bakery buildings are removed.
Keis asked for an estimate of costs for the streetscape work. The City
Administrator estimated $10,000 for a basic plan with a range upward
from that point. He noted the work that Hoisington Koegler did for the
Rice Street/Little Canada Road streetscape.
The consensus of the discussion was that the City Administrator should try
to obtain information fi•om the County relative to the east side of Little
Canada Road, and include that segment in the Streetscape RFP. If that
cannot be done in a timely manner, the Administrator should proceed with
a streetscape RFP for the west side of Little Canada Road as well as the
County Road B-2/Rice Street area.
There being no further business, the workshop was adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
r~
dam Bleu er,
Mayor
Attes : owl /C'. iH
oel F arson, City Administrator
3
