MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 8, 2010
Dan Scu]ley appeared before the Council and noting that the MBRB
would be limited to antlerless deer only on their property, but asked about
the other hunt sites. Sculley was concerned that the MBRB would be
looking for trophies and would not take the antlerless deer. The City
Administrator did not deny that the MBRB hunters may be looking for
trophies. However, they are hunters and will betaking the antlerless deer
as well.
Sculley asked about hunt dates. 1'he Administator indicated that the
Sculley hunt team would be allowed to hunt during the September 18
through October 31 S` time period. They would be required to report who is
hunting, conf rm proficiency testing, and report what has been taken.
Sculley asked about reporting to the Sheriff's Department any shot deer
that leave their property. He indicated that their plan would be to work
with their neighbors if this situation arises. The Administrator reported
that the Sculley's would need written permission from their neighbors to
remove any shot deer that may wander on their property. The MBRB,
under its permit, would have to report this situation to the Sheriff's
Department as they are not a property owner.
Sculley asked the number of people they can have in their hwit team. The
Administrator indicated that that is up to them. Sculley reported that he
has five people interested, two of which are not family members. All f ve
have passed proficiency testing. The Administrator reported that the
Sculley's will specify their hunt team and provide a list to the City.
Dan Sculley reported that their hunt team will be subject to all DNR
hunting rules. Under those rules each hunter can take one antlered animal
and the rest would be antlerless. The Administrator reported that the City
has no authority to vary the DNR rules. All hunters, including the Sculley
team and the MBRB, would be subject to the DNR rules.
Boss asked about notice to neighbors and signing of the property while the
hunt is occurring. The City Administrator indicated that the City would
notify neighbors. Dan Sculley indicated that he would post signs when the
hunt is occurring. The City Administrator stated that the City would
provide signage to Sculley to post.
Mr. McGraw introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2010-9-208 -APPROVING THE DEER
MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE METRO BOWHUNTERS
RESOURCE BASE AS PRESENTED BY THE CITY
9
