MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 9, 2010
complementary to the principal building. The concern was with that
garden sheds purchased from retail outlets would not meet these
requirements. The City Planner noted the terms "similar" and
"complementary" were used, and that the Code amendment proposed does
not requirement that garden sheds match the principal building. Knudsen
suggested that it would be reasonable that a white garden shed would be
considered complementary to a blue house. The Planner agreed that this
would be a reasonable interpretation.
7'he Commission then discussed the amendment relative to sign heights,
with the Planner noting that currently the Code allows properties within
600 feet of a fi•eeway interchange to have a pylon sign 30 feet in height.
The proposal continues to allow this sign height for properties abutting the
freeway. Other properties would he subject to a pylon sign height that is
scales to building size.
The Planner noted that the next amendment relates to a tightening of the
definition of dog enclosures. He pointed out this is a Municipal Code
amendment, which does not require Planning Commission review.
The Commission found the amendments as proposed to be acceptable.
Duray recommended approval of the Amendments to the Zoning Code
related to the definition of garden shed and pylon sign height for
properties in the vicinity of freeway intersections, as well as the
Amendment to the Municipal Code related to the definition of dog
enclosure as recommended by the City Planner.
Motion seconded by Knudsen.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
CHANGE The City Clerk indicated that given the Planning Commission's
NOVEMBER November meeting date falls on a legal holiday, Veteran's Day, that
MEETING meeting should be change.
