MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 26, 2011
RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -1 -24 CONTINUING THE PUBLIC
HEARING ON THE NIELSEN APPLICATION FOR REZONING TO
1 -1 DISTRICT AND CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR OUTDOOR
STORAGE FOR PROPERTY AT 3075 SPRUCE STREET UNTIL THE
APRIL 27, 2011 CITY COUNCIL MEETING AT THE REQUEST OF
THE APPLICANT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Boss.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
AMEND PUD Blesener opened the Public Hearing to consider an Amendment to
PERMIT Planned Unit Development Permit to allow a three -level addition of
ST. JUDE approximately 20,000 square feet consisting of manufacturing and
MEDICAL office space to the existing Phase I building for St. Jude Medical at One
St. Jude Drive. Blesener noted that the City Planner and the Planning
Commission have recommended approval subject to conditions.
The City Planner indicated that St. Jude Medical is proposing a 3- story,
20,000 square foot addition to the east side of their technology center
adjacent to the loading area. Exterior materials will be similar to the
existing building. The Planner noted that when the PUD was originally
approved for St. Jude, a future parking deck was anticipated to
accommodate the additional parking that would be needed. Under this
proposal, an additional 50+ parking spaces would be added on the south
side of the existing parking lot. The Planner noted that the applicant has
indicated that when the second phase of the technology center is
constructed, this parking would be removed and the parking deck added.
The Planner noted that the applicant was asked to verify that adequate
screening to the south residential area would be added, and they have
provided some information in that regard. He also noted that if the
additional parking proposed is not adequate, St. Jude can utilize the
existing parking supply to the east. The Planner indicated that the
proposal before the Council appears to be consistent with long -term
expansion plans.
The Planner then reviewed the recommended approval conditions outlined
in his January 6, 2011 report. He also noted that the City Engineer
submitted a report dated January 5, 2011 which also outlines approval
conditions.
Blesener asked the dimensions of the proposed addition. Nina
Eberhausen, Architectural Alliance, reported that the addition will extend
36 feet to the east and 150 feet wide matching the existing building.
2
