j t Q_ Ys Wz
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R. Hanson
www.ciiittle-canada.mn.us
February 16, 2011
To: I- Ionorable Mayor and City Council
From: Jim Lee, Fire Marshal
Re: Conditional Use Permit Variance 2956 Yorkton Blvd
Regarding this conditional use permit I discussed the issue of exiting from the building
with Mr. Tom Kromroy regarding the fenced area. There are two exits to the east side of
the building. The new fencing would not be in compliance with the fire code because of
exiting. The exits would direct people to a locked fenced area. This is a violation of the
fire code. All exits must direct people to the public way.
I explained to Mr. Kromroy he would either have to have two approved dedicated exits
through the fenced area. Mr. Kromroy stated he planned for one dictated exit through the
fenced area but would like eliminate the other exit. I explained to Mr. Kromroy he could
have a licensed architect provide plans regarding exiting. The plans are to include
occupant load, travel distances and exiting from all parts of the building. The plans must
also be approved by the building official. If the architect determines because of the
occupant load and travel distances only one exit necessary and the plans are approved by
the building official one exit may be eliminated. Mr. Kromroy stated he understood the
exiting issue.
I would recommend approval of the conditional use and variance pending resolution of
all issues regarding exiting
16
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
John Keis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
