MN 55117-1600 <br />(651) 766 -4029 FAX: (651) 766 -4048 <br />www.d.little-canada.mn.us <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council <br />PROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Cleric <br />DATE: March 17, 2011 <br />RE: Personnel Policy Amendments <br />The next clarification proposed corrects a couple of typos in the section of the Personnel Policy <br />which applies to "Outside Employment <br />Finally, staff is proposing some additional language in the Sections "Leaves With Pay" and <br />"Overtime and Compensatory Time" that reinforces the fact that sick leave and vacation leave <br />cannot be combined with regular hours worked to generate overtime or compensatory time. <br />1 <br />MAYOR <br />Hill Blesener <br />COUNCIL <br />Rick Montour <br />John Bels <br />Michael McGraw <br />Shelly Boss <br />ADMINISTRATOR <br />Joel R. 1 Janson <br />City staff is proposing one Personnel Policy Amendment as well as a couple of housekeeping <br />items. With regard to the amendment, staff is proposing that the usage of sick leave be expanded <br />to allow an employee to use his /her sick leave to care for parents. Currently, sick leave can be <br />used for the employee's own personal illness, as well as that of a spouse or a child. <br />Staff conducted a survey of surrounding communities (ten communities some of which had <br />"sick leave" and others "paid time off All cities surveyed allowed employees to use sick leave <br />for their parents (typically to accompany them to a doctor's appointment or to be with them <br />during surgery). <br />
