MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />January 6, 2011 <br />Morelan said that the Little Canada Recreation Association sponsors a trip to the <br />Timberwolves game each year for the youth basketball kids. They pay for the bus, game <br />tickets, and give each child monies for snacks and a beverage. When Maida asked if they <br />needed chaperones for this, Morelan replied that usually the coaches and some city staff <br />members also attend the event as chaperones. <br />Morelan also announced that the LCRA will be having their 34th annual Youth Skating <br />Party at the Old Fire Hall rink on February 5, 2011. They will be giving away door prizes, <br />hot dogs, hot chocolate, along with having races and clowns at the event. <br />Morelan reported the 15 -year lease has expired with the Little Canada Elementary School for <br />use of their gymnasium for our youth winter events. He said he and Joel Hanson, City <br />Administrator, have been working on a new contract for another long -term lease. <br />Some excess park and recreation equipment in the past has been donated to the National <br />Alliance for Youth Sports located in Florida. Morelan reported that this year they are <br />sending some aluminum bats that the NAYS sends off to needy children in third world <br />countries. Morelan said this is the third time the city has made this type of donation in the <br />past six to eight years.
