MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 13, 2011
PLAY AREAS
BUDGET
STATUS
Sanders reported that the City has done a wonderful job of maintaining its
facilities. He suggested, however, that the City needs a logical system for
replacement and upgrading of playground equipment.
The Director indicated that once equipment has been in place for some
time, even if it is still in solid shape, people lose interest and go to
playgrounds in other cities that have more updated equipment. The
Director suggested that a playground equipment inventory needs to be
done and a replacement schedule developed.
The City Administrator pointed out that a question is being included in the
upcoming City survey relative to this issue.
Sanders asked the City's budget status. Blesener indicated that eventually
the City will lose all of its LGA and will likely lose MVHC as well. He
indicated that there will not be as much available funding for City projects
as there has been in the past.
The City Administrator indicated that in addition to the State budget
deficit, the City has reduced revenues due to a drop in interest earnings, a
decrease in building permit fees, reduced gambling tax revenues, etc.
The Administrator also noted in the past surpluses from the General Fund
have been transferred to the General Capital Improvement Fund. These
surpluses will also be impacted resulting in less funding for capital
improvements. The Administrator recommended to the Commission that
any capital improvements that are being contemplated be identified so
they can be scheduled on the Capital Improvement Plan.
Montour thanked the Commission for their hard work. He indicated that
the City's parks and trail system is one of the biggest resources it has.
There being no other business, the workshop meeting was adjourned at
7:28 p.m.
AttestY ) /c
Joel Hanson, City Administrator
5
