MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 13, 2011 <br />Fahey and Boss agreed there was a safety issue for walkers on County <br />Drive. Blesener suggested that the City Engineer to his analysis and put <br />together a cost. A decision would then be made when that information is <br />available. <br />LITTLE Sanders reported that work has begun on planning for the addition of <br />CANADA sidewalks and streetscape improvements along Little Canada Road from <br />ROAD Lakeshore /County Road C to Edgerton Street <br />LAHORE Sanders reported that the Commission receives a lot of comments about <br />ROAD the need for a safer walking environment on LaBore Road Sanders stated <br />that the Commission would continue to look at this area considering either <br />wider shoulders or an off- street trail. <br />CENTERVILLE Sanders pointed out the need for a good pedestrian connection between <br />ROAD Spooner and Pioneer Parks. He noted that Centerville Road would be the <br />logical connection and the fact that the road is in poor condition. The City <br />Administrator reported that Centerville Road keeps sliding back on the <br />County's 5 -year plan, and is not even on that plan at this time. <br />NORTHEAST Sanders suggested that as additional development occurs in the northeast <br />WOODLAND/ area of the City, that the City preserve as much of the natural area as <br />WETLAND possible in order to develop a natural trail connection through this area. <br />CONNECTION The City Administrator noted that the City has some easements through <br />this area. <br />CANADIAN Sanders reported that the Canadian Days Committee has requested <br />DAYS a regarding of some of the open space in Spooner Park in order to provide <br />REQUEST a larger level area for carnival set -up. Sanders reported that the <br />Commission wants to preserve the scenic view from the shelter area <br />through the park. The Commission will meet on -site prior to their next <br />meeting to determine if that view can be preserved while meeting <br />Canadian Days' objectives. Sanders also suggested that the lay -out for the <br />Canadian Days Celebration should be reviewed to determine if there are <br />efficiencies that can be achieved. <br />McGraw asked if the Parks Commission would level this area of the park <br />without the Canadian Days request. The Director replied that it would not. <br />McGraw asked if the work would enhance the park for citizen use outside <br />of Canadian Days. The Director replied that it would not, and this is why <br />the Commission is moving cautiously. There is no desire to do anything <br />that will detract from the park. It was pointed out that if any work <br />proceeds, it would be completed for 2012 Canadian Days. <br />4 <br />
