MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
June 2, 2011
Sanders commented that he and the city engineer were aware of the need for land fill and
they would continue to look for projects that could assist with this proposed grading project.
Gagne added that there is a project expected to be started this summer for the Park & Ride at
the junction of Rice Street and County Road B. He thought there would be a large amount
of fill that would need to be removed from the hill in that area to make a parking lot. Gagne
suggested that someone on this committee or with the city check into maybe acquiring that
land fill.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Chair Fahey stated that Steinert was absent from this month's meeting because of a death in
his family. She knew he has been working on the event that will be held in conjunction with
Canadian Days on Thursday, July 28th in the lower shelter area of Spooner Park. Fahey
named the Ramsey County Canine Unit, the Roseville Puppet Wagon, and the Little Canada
Fire Department as participants in the annual event. Fahey invited all commissioners to
come and enjoy and help with the event.
OTHER Norgard stated there will be a Twins bus trip scheduled for June 14, 2011, leaving from
Gordies at 6:00 p.m. sponsored by the Little Canada Park & Recreation Department.
Chair Fahey commented that she noticed the red arrow on the stop light that driver's view as
they approach Little Canada Road going up the freeway ramp by the Porterhouse. Gagne
stated the red arrow has been there to advise drivers that there is no right turn on a red light
at that intersection.
Sanders commented that the striping project that Gagne had recommended earlier this year
for Country Drive looks to be approved. This should help with safety issues on that road for
walkers and bikers.
The Farmers' Market will begin on June 20t and run through September 26. It will be held
in the Saxon Lanes parking lot on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., except for 4th of July and
Labor Day. Seventeen vendors are currently registered.
The next P &R Commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 7, at 7:30 p.m.
ADJOURN Upon motion by Heikke, seconded by Sullivan, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Dotty Norgard
Recording Secretary
