It was
COUNTRY noted that both the City Planner and the Planning Commission
DRIVE — recommended approval subject to conditions.
PALLET
SERVICE The City Planner indicated that the applicant is seeking a PUD Permit
CORP. amendment to extend a previous approval for a building expansion and to
expand the area and volume of outdoor storage of wood on the site at 3213
Country Drive as well as to make this storage permanent. The Planner
noted that in 2010, the City approved an interim use permit for outdoor
storage for the applicants, tenants of the property, to store a limited portion
of their products on this site under the PUD allowances of the code. The
Planner reported that the applicants now wish to purchase the property and
make the outdoor storage permanent. The previous permit allowed 22,000
square feet of outdoor storage with a maximum height of 9 feet. The
applicant is now requesting 60,000 square feet of storage with a maximum
height of 14 feet. The Planner indicated that under the Code, maximum
outdoor storage height is 8 feet, but given the PUD Zoning, the City has
flexibility within that district.
The Planner indicated that the Planning Commission recommended
approval of the PUD requests noted that the outdoor storage is screened
from Country Drive by existing buildings.
Blesener noted that the poor soil conditions in this area and the piling
system that was required in order to construct the union hall building on
the adjacent site.
Keis reported that he looked at the site and noted it appears the 22,000
square feet of approved outdoor storage has been exceeded as has the
storage height of 9 feet. Keis estimated the height of some of the storage
piles at 18 feet, which even exceeds the 14 feet being requested.
Blesener asked about the processing of wood products on site
(cutting /splitting). The Planner indicated that he thought they did some
treatment of lumber on the site, but was unsure of the details.
6
