McGraw agreed with saying no to the sales
tax, but indicating support for the stadium
The Council directed the City Administrator to redraft the resolution based
on their discussion and bring it back to them for action.
The City Administrator reviewed his report dated July 8, 2011 proposing
the purchase of an IP telephony system for the City Center through the
City of Roseville. The current phone system is with the State of MN's
Centrex system and has been in place for almost 11 years. Over the past
few years, the cost of the State's system has increased resulting in the
telephony system through Roseville as being more economical.
Additionally, the City will gain features that are not available through the
Centrex system. The City of Roseville provides this telephony system to a
number of cities, and currently provides IT service for the City's computer
system.
The Administrator reported that consideration was also given to
implementing telephony at the Parks Shop and Public Works Garage, but
the support equipment needed for these locations negates any potential
savings. However, this may be an option in the future. Providing
telephony to the Fire Station is another option being explored at this time.
Boss asked about internet interruptions. The City Administrator indicated
that while this could occur, the City's internet service has been very
reliable. He also pointed out our phone system has failed in the past.
The Administrator reported that the cost of converting to the telephony
system at City Hall is approximately $8,000. Given the monthly
operational savings of $387, the payback on the investment is 1.7 years.
There are sufficient dollars in the Capital Improvement Budget for this
expenditure.
Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -7 -134 — APPROVING THE PURCHASE
AND CONVERSION TO A TELEPHONY SERVICE THROUGH THE
CITY OF ROSEVILLE FOR THE CITY CENTER AT A COST OF UP
TO $8,000 AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Boss.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0).
