MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />SEPTEMBER 1, 2011 <br />Fahey noted that the primary needs relate to playgrounds and trails. <br />Lolmaugh suggested that work could commence on playground <br />equipment replacement. <br />3046 The Director reported that the property at 3046 LaBore Road is in <br />LABORE foreclosure and that a portion of the planned trail system in this area <br />ROAD would cross this property. The Director reviewed maps showing the <br />ACQUISITION proposed trail system which would connect at the existing powerline trail <br />and run north and south through the area. The Director indicated that the <br />City will be making an offer to the bank for acquisition of this property. <br />The City would then obtain the portion of the land needed for the trail, <br />and the remainder of the land would eventually be redeveloped. <br />Sanders felt that acquisition of this land was a good idea and would <br />provide the City with a lot of options relative to the trail connection. <br />Slain noted that acquiring this land shows a commitment to completion of <br />the trail in this area. Sullivan asked if the trail would connect with the <br />Gervais Woods development. The Director replied that it would. <br />Lolmaugh declared that the City's acquisition of 3046 LaBore Road is <br />consistent with the Little Canada Park Master Plan. <br />Motion seconded by Sullivan. <br />Motion carried 6 — 0. <br />OTHER The Director reported that flyers will be distributed next week at local <br />BUSINESS schools announcing registration for basketball and gymnastics. He further <br />reported that Market Place Morning Talks will be held Wednesday, <br />September 14th, and the presentation will be "Fitness by Lake Ridge ". <br />The Director reported that LCRA is putting together a new fundraiser and <br />is considering hosting an ice fishing contest on Gervais Lake. LCRA is <br />currently working with Ramsey County to use the parking facilities at the <br />beach. <br />Heikke described the concept that is being considered. These include 300 <br />to 500 holes for ice fishing, a variety of prizes based on size of fish, both <br />big and small. LCRA is talking with the Fire Department about their <br />serving food, possibly chili. Estimated entry fee would be $15 to $20. <br />Parking would occur at the beach parking lot and along one side of <br />Edgerton Street. More details will follow. <br />6 <br />
