MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 14, 2011
CALL Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
INFO
UPDATE RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -9- 184 — CALLING AN INFORMATIONAL
WORKSHOP UPDATE MEETING WITH CITY STAFF FOR WEDNESDAY,
OCTOBER 12, 2011 AT 6:00 P.M.
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Boss.
Ayes (4).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
GOPHER The City Administrator pointed out the discussion that occurred at an
ELECTRONICS earlier Council meeting relative to the need to improve the weir
UPDATE structure on the Gopher Electronic property. This structure provides
treatment for the run -off from the Gopher parking lot before it gets into
Savage Lake. The Administrator reported that Gopher has been working
with the Watershed District on this project. The Administrator stated that
he has discussed the project with Cliff Aichinger of the Watershed, and
not much progress has been made. The Watershed has been focused on
flooding that has occurred this summer. They are, however, working on a
cost share arrangement and design assistance for improving the weir.
Blesener asked if improving the weir structure will treat the run off from
the Gopher parking lot. The Administrator indicated that an improved
weir structure will provide some pretreatment into Savage Lake. The
Administrator reported that the Watershed has indicated that there are
other properties that have run -off into Savage Lake and it is there
contention that the run -off from Gopher is no worse than any of these
other properties.
Keis asked when this project will be finalized. The Administrator
estimated that it would not occur until next year. He indicated that he will
contact John Rinkie at Gopher to find out if Gopher is fully committed to
the project and to urge a quick resolution.
Blesener noted that the City Engineer had looked at the areas of
sedimentation in Savage Lake. The Administrator stated that he did, and
his findings were that it removal of the sedimentation would cause more
damage than the benefit of removing it. The Administrator also
commented that his recollection was that there were not vast quantities of
sedimentation.
Keis asked that the Administrator keep those citizens who have expressed
interest in the Gopher weir project informed. The Administrator replied
6
