➢ We are facing a revised Sheriff's Department Formula. I would like to discuss this with you in
greater detail and make sure I'm properly representing the City's interests. The new formula
will cost us additional money without a change in service levels. From our initial review at the
Contract Group meetings, this may be appropriate, but I want you to understand it in greater
detail. I will have more info on the impacts at Wednesday's meeting.
➢ With Unweave the Weave winding down, our local traffic impacts should subside a bit. We
should discuss our funding of the Traffic Car with the Sheriff's Department. (We are currently
paying a higher share than normal for the two squads in order to have a higher service level. Do
we want to continue to incur the costs and gain the increased visibility they provide or do we
want to cut back on this service ?)
➢ One member of the Council has inquired about the possibility of holiday decorations for the
City. Past City Councils have chosen not to pursue this, but times change. I would like to
discuss this topic to see where we stand. If we want to put up holiday decorations, we will need
time to order them and to install the necessary brackets to support them. (We may also have to
check to make sure they can be supported on our current fixtures and what modifications, if any,
we need to make to provide electricity to them.)
➢ I would also like to talk about extending Maplewood's sanitary sewer beyond Beam Avenue.
I'll update you on the conversations we've had regarding easement acquisition and I would like
to review issues and potential layouts. (I have attached a diagram showing how this could look
and will talk about the costs of extending the line to various areas to avoid the need for more lift
stations.)
➢ Carbon monoxide and smoke detector requirements have been changed during the last
legislative session. Duane Williams and Jim Lee have put together some information on this
that we can discuss to determine how aggressive we want to be in these areas. (We have the
option of requiring placement in all apartment units by adopting an ordinance to that effect.)
➢ We can also discuss any other items of interest you may have.
