Self Inspection Program
The goal of the Inspection program is to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens
of the community. This is achieved through two basic strategies.
1. Prevent fire from occurring through
a. General inspections
b. Education
2. Manage the impact on people and property should a fire occur through
a. Accurate and updated preplans
b. Knowledge of special building features such as fire protection systems
and utilities.
1 am proposing an upgrade to the fire inspection program for the City of I.,ittle Canada
through the following.
Inspection of the common space of all multi - family occupancies once a year.
Potential for largest life loss, historically that is where most fire fatalities occur
and where people are most vulnerable.
All commercial properties are inspected on either an annual or bi- annual cycle.
The frequency is determined based on type of occupancy, building population,
fuel load, and potential hazards within the occupancy and the potential
community risk associated with the occupancy.
On the off inspection year continue the self - inspection program.
Implementation Plan:
1. Identify occupancies and establish schedule.
2. Explanation of the program and goals of the Self-Inspection Program.
a) A letter to the business owners /managers.
b) Inspection form.
c) Guidelines for self - inspection.
d) Follow -up letter.
Understanding that with any new program there will be some pushback, I am hoping to
minimize this by working with the public and treat people with courtesy and respect.
10
