NYFS Strategic Plan (2007 -2012)
Global Vision:
Suburban Ramsey County communities are healthy to live in for all youth and families.
Mission:
Northwest Youth and Family Services (NYFS) is a community -based service agency. Our
mission is "To prepare youth and families for healthy lives."
Organization Vision:
NYFS is focused on the future. Our vision for how we contribute to our global vision and fulfill
our mission over the next 5 -7 years includes the following elements of a) Services for Youth and
Families b) Growth through Partnership, c)) Leadership at the Community Level, and d)
Effectiveness and Accountability
a. Services for Youth and Families
NYFS's primary geographic service area is suburban Ramsey County. Our service programs
will address the needs of those most vulnerable and for whom we can have the greatest
impact. We will embrace the whole person within the context of being part of a family and
living in a community. Our programs will focus on services for youth ages of 5 to 21 and
their families and will respond to their needs to:
• Maintain good mental and emotional health
• Grow in accountability and self - responsibility for their actions
• Cope effectively with the challenges they face
• Be supported by their families and communities especially in critical years of
development and transition
• Contribute to their communities
Small children, adults, and seniors are not considered our primary customers. Programs for
these groups will be developed primarily from a family systems and inter - generational
framework aimed at addressing the needs of youth.
b. Growth through Community Partnerships
We will be known for the integrity and depth of our partnerships with the governmental,
faith, schools, and business sectors and with other nonprofit organizations serving youth and
families. Our board members will be leaders (delete reference to staff role in this area) in
building and sustaining relationships throughout the community. We will significantly
expand services over the next 5 years through our relationships and partnerships ensuring:
• Comprehensive services to the families we serve
• Expanding service locations and other venues of access to services
• Culturally appropriate and /or culturally specific programs and providers
• Continued investment in effective community -based prevention programs
• Replication/expansion of effective programs where they are needed and sustainable
• Responsive and creative initiatives that address community crises and gaps in
services
Transportation in the suburban Ramsey County area is an issue, but outside our scope of
influence. Co- location of services will be our primary strategy to address issues of access to
services. Mergers and formal alliances will be assessed on their merits and not divert us from
our mission and vision.
Center for Policy, Planning, and Performance 1
- 1 2 -
