NARRATIVE REPORT
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The following is the final report of the asbestos and regulated material survey performed within the
former residence located at 85 Viking Drive, Little Canada, MN. The sampling was performed on
May 10, 2007 by Keith Giorgi and Todd Giorgi of LEGEND TECHNICAL SERVICES, INC.
(LEGEND).
2.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Two buildings were present on the parcel including a three level house and a detached garage. The
buildings are scheduled for demolition therefore destructive sampling was performed (i.e. wall
cavities, ceiling cavities, etc. were opened up). The survey was limited to above grade and did not
include identifying underground storage tanks or other buried services.
3.0 METHODOLOGY
3.1 Asbestos Sampling
The samples were collected in accordance with the Minnesota Department of Health Rules
4620.3460. The samples were analyzed by AMA Laboratories, Lanham, MD for the
presence of asbestos fibers using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and dispersion staining
techniques. The analysis was performed using an Olympus BHSP microscope at 40 -200X
magnification in accordance with current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)
protocols, "Method for the Determination of Asbestos in Bulk Building Materials ", EPA
600 /R- 93/116, 1993. An asbestos containing material is defined as any material containing
greater than one percent asbestos as analyzed by PLM techniques. The exception is
vermiculite insulation which is considered as asbestos containing by the Minnesota Pollution
Control Agency (MPCA) if any detectable amounts of asbestos are present.
3.2 Lead Paint Sampling
Samples were collected of paints found in a deteriorated state (i.e. peeling, flaking, etc.) and
analyzed for lead content. The samples were analyzed in LEGEND's laboratory for lead
according to EPA Method 6010B using Inductive Coupled Plasma. Any paints that are in
poor condition and are deemed to be lead -based paints (contain greater than 5,000 parts per
million) must be stabilized prior to demolition.
5
