3.3 Regulated Material Survey
A walk- through was performed of the entire parcel where materials classified as regulated
wastes by the MPCA were identified and quantified. Regulated materials include but are not
limited to; mercury containing devices, fluorescent light bulbs, pcb containing ballasts,
Housed chemicals, etc.
4.0 RESULTS
4.1 Asbestos Sampling Results
A total of forty-one samples were collected of materials suspected of containing asbestos.
The results of the sampling show that the following materials were determined to be asbestos
containing and must be removed prior to demolition:
The duct seam wrap (paper) found on the ductwork located throughout the house was
determined to be asbestos containing. The paper is wrapped around the seams of the
ductwork which is found exposed in the basement and is concealed in wall and /or ceiling
cavities within the upper levels. LEGEND would estimate that there is approximately 150
square feet of the paper present. The abatement contractor will have to demolish the plaster
walls and/or ceilings on the upper levels in order to expose the ducts that require abatement.
Vent locations on the second floor have been provided on Diagram #3 for reference
purposes.
The textured ceiling spray found throughout the first and second floors of the house was
determined to be asbestos containing. It is estimated that there is approximately 700 square
feet of the spray present in the house. The spray will have to be removed by a licensed
asbestos abatement contractor prior to demolition.
The black/gray caulk found around the perimeter of the chimney (on the exterior of the
house) was determined to be asbestos containing. There is approximately 50 linear feet of
the caulk present extending from the ground to the roof. The caulk should be removed by a
licensed asbestos abatement contractor prior to demolition.
Refer to Table #1 located in Appendix A for complete analytical results. The quantities
given are only estimates and should be verified by the abatement contractor prior to bidding.
4.2 Lead in Paint Sampling Results
A total of two samples were collected of paints that were in poor condition. The results
show that both paints were determined to be non -lead -based paints and therefore, no
stabilization is required.
6
