Hanson
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: April 20, 2007
RE: Goose Control Measures
As you are aware, Dr. Cooper has been doing research on the effectiveness of egg
destruction as a goose management tool in small wetland areas with less than 10 geese.
The results so far have been promising, and as a result he is proposing this control
measure for the Little Canada sites (Canterbury, East and West Savage, Round Lake, and
St. Jude's).
The estimated cost of the egg destruction program is 15% less than the trapping program.
Dr. Cooper has indicated that if there are more than 10 gees found at a location, the
summer trapping will be done at no additional cost.
Staff recommends that the City proceed with the egg destruction program as proposed by
Dr. Cooper.
