Joel Hanson
From:
Sent:
To:
Cc:
Subject:
Attachments:
Egg Research
Proposal.pdf (67 ...
Hi Joel,
Jim Cooper Lac @umn.eduj
Sunday, March 11, 2007 3:17 PM
Joel Hanson
Jim Cooper; Tom Keefe; Andrea Reyes
Goose Egg Destruction
Egg Research Proposal.pdf
Goose pairs are flying about the cities so it is time to plan spring and summer goose
work.
For two springs, we have been doing research on the effectiveness of egg destruction as a
goose management tool in small isolated wetlands.
I've attached at copy of the research proposal.
The results so far have been promising with few (<10) geese at the
target sites in summer and the cost lower than summer removal. Five
of your sites, Canterbury, East and West Savage, Round, and St. Judes, are good candidates
for the research.
We are currently staffing for the egg work and could do the Little Canada sites if you
wish. Costs have been about 20% lower than summer trapping, and if more than 10 geese are
found at a location, we will do summer trapping at no additional cost.
Nest searching will start in early April when most females incubating and end in mid -May.
Let me know if you would like us to do egg destruction.
Warm regards,
Jim
Dr. Jim Cooper
The Canada Goose Program
651- 644 -6206
