Hanson <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Joel Hanson, City Administrator <br />PROM: James Lee, Deputy Fire Marshal <br />DATE: February 5, 2007 <br />RE: Imminent Hazards /Corrective Action Report, 3165 -67 Spruce Street <br />Paint /Chemical Mixing Room <br />The space used for storage of paint and mixing of chemicals is hazardous because the <br />design of this storage room does not meet the applicable fire codes. There is storage of <br />unknown and improperly identified chemicals in this space This space is hazardous to <br />life safety because of the improper storage of chemicals, lack of fire code safety design, <br />and the combined business use inside this building. <br />To correct the hazardous violation the paint storage and flammable chemicals shall be <br />removed from the mixing room and building or they shall be stored in a flammable <br />storage cabinet or a storage and mixing room which is compliant with all applicable <br />building, fire, and electrical codes. (See Pictures 39 and 42) <br />Paint Booth <br />The paint booth was constructed without permits and does not meet Minnesota State Fire <br />Code, International Building Codes, International Mechanical Code or ICC Electrical <br />Codes. This paint booth is hazardous because improper ventilation, improper wiring and <br />lack of fire protection or detection equipment. With the combined violations above and <br />additionally noted violations in fire inspection report, this paint booth is a hazard to life <br />and property. <br />The property owner shall either remove the paint booth entirely or bring the paint booth <br />into compliance with all applicable building, fire, electrical and mechanical codes. (See <br />Picture 5) <br />Means of Egress <br />The debris stored inside the building is hazardous because the means of egress has been <br />jeopardized by having no egress pathway throughout. All means of egress shall remain <br />unobstructed and continuous from point of entry to exit discharge. The means of egress <br />including the exit discharge shall be illuminated at all times when the building is <br />occupied. Exit signs are required and shall t-: E `ernally or externally illuminated. <br />
