.tlf CRING 6- ASSOCIATES
Memo
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer
DATE: August 22, 2007
RE: Spooner Park Bocce Ball Court Bench Pads
TAU UUMA
The Park Department has received comments from the users of the Bocce Ball court in
Spooner Park that the area between the benches and the court becomes muddy due to
the lack of grass. During rain events dirt is being washed onto the courts. In review of
the area there is no grass between the benches and the courts due to the limited area
(approximately 4 feet) and the amount of foot traffic in front of the benches. There is
also a small hill north of the bocce ball courts that directs some drainage toward the
court.
It is our recommendation that concrete pads be added to the bench areas. This work
would entail removal of the benches, re- installation of the bench supports, and pouring
of concrete pads approximately 5 feet wide by 28 feet long. These pads would eliminate
the muddy conditions and direct water away from the bocce ball courts. We requested
prices from numerous Contractors for the work and received the following two quotes.
Arcade Concrete $2,850.00
Landmark Concrete Inc. $7,980.00
Arcade Concrete provided the lowest quote for the work. They are a local contractor
specializing in driveway and concrete pad work. The other contractor is the curb
contractor working on the 2007 street project. Based on the quotes we received we
would recommend authorizing Arcade Concrete to complete the work. If you have any
questions I will be at the City Council meeting tonight.
10062 Flanders Court NE — Blaine, MN 55449 — Ph: (763) 780 -0450 Fax (763) 780 -0452
Memo - 082207 -CC (Bocce Court Benches)
