MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
Michael McGraw
515 Little Canada Road. Little Canada. MN 55117-1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
Joel R. Hanson
www. ci.little -c anada. mn. us
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor Blesener & Members of the City Council
From: Bill Dircks, Public Works Superintendent
Date: July 9, 2007
Re: 2007 Street Seal Coating
On Monday, July 9, the City of Little Canada received, opened, and read aloud bids for our street
seal coating. We have once again combined our work with Vadnais Heights this year to provide
a larger square yardage for companies to bid on. I have included a chart of streets we plan to
have seal coated this summer.
Last year Pearson Brothers, Inc. received the bid and did the work for $.64 /Square Yard. We are
using the same specifications as last year: Virgin FA -2 trap rock with CRS -2 bituminous
material.
We received two bids, one from Pearson Bros. and one from Allied Blacktop. The bids have
been broken down to cost per city on the attached sheet. Based on the results I would
recommend that we award the bid to Pearson Bros. at $.98 per square yard. The budget
projected the cost to be $1.00 per square yard so we are very close to the projected price. The
significant price increase can be directly attributed to the higher cost of oil. That directly affects
the price of oil in the bituminous material applied to the streets as well as the cost of fuel for the
trucks and sweepers.
- 1 9 -
