CITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />POLICY FOR RESIDENTIAL STREET LIGHTING <br />ADOPTED DECEMBER-144986 <br />ADOPTED April 26, 2000 <br />GENERAL <br />This policy applies to street lighting erected within the public right -of -way for the <br />purpose of lighting public streets. <br />Traffic safety shall mean both vehicle and pedestrian safety. <br />Requested and /or proposed light locations shall be physically inspected by the Public <br />Works Supewiser Director to determine the _ _ _ _ • _ _ _ _ _ - _ need <br />and feasibility of placement. <br />Existing lights that may overlap, ace -that are spaced too close per the City <br />standards or that are deemed hazardous or unnecessary for traffic safety can be <br />removed or moved upon direction of the Public Works Bupewiser Director. <br />Sines Street lights are provided for street traffic safety only, , <br />lighting for persenalineigitefkgGet personal and /or neighborhood security is not allowed <br />under this policy. Security lighting is to be purchased by the owner desiring sash <br />personal and /or neighborhood security. Special hazards relating to traffic or pedestrian <br />safety may also be considered. <br />STREET LIGHT REQUEST <br />Streetlights will be considered upon receipt of a petition from property owners on the <br />affected street, or upon recommendation of the Public Works Stipentieer Director. <br />The City Staff will review <br />and give consideration to petitions that demonstrate a specific or warranted need due <br />to traffic and /or pedestrian safety. <br />A petition requesting a light shall be by 60% 60% of the abutting property owners <br />affected. The petition and signatures shall mean the consent of the affected property <br />owners, to the City, to locate a light near their property. A property owner shall be <br />deemed affected if the property is within 209 -feet 300 feet in any street direction from <br />the proposed location, on either side of the street. <br />A street light request may be delayed due to lack of funds in a given budget year. The <br />City Council and /or Public Works &upervissr Director must <br />- 1 - <br />4 <br />
