CITY OF LITTLE CANADA POLICY FOR RESIDENTIAL STREET LIGHTING ADOPTED DECEMBER-144986 ADOPTED April 26, 2000 GENERAL This policy applies to street lighting erected within the public right -of -way for the purpose of lighting public streets. Traffic safety shall mean both vehicle and pedestrian safety. Requested and /or proposed light locations shall be physically inspected by the Public Works Supewiser Director to determine the _ _ _ _ • _ _ _ _ _ - _ need and feasibility of placement. Existing lights that may overlap, ace -that are spaced too close per the City standards or that are deemed hazardous or unnecessary for traffic safety can be removed or moved upon direction of the Public Works Bupewiser Director. Sines Street lights are provided for street traffic safety only, , lighting for persenalineigitefkgGet personal and /or neighborhood security is not allowed under this policy. Security lighting is to be purchased by the owner desiring sash personal and /or neighborhood security. Special hazards relating to traffic or pedestrian safety may also be considered. STREET LIGHT REQUEST Streetlights will be considered upon receipt of a petition from property owners on the affected street, or upon recommendation of the Public Works Stipentieer Director. The City Staff will review and give consideration to petitions that demonstrate a specific or warranted need due to traffic and /or pedestrian safety. A petition requesting a light shall be by 60% 60% of the abutting property owners affected. The petition and signatures shall mean the consent of the affected property owners, to the City, to locate a light near their property. A property owner shall be deemed affected if the property is within 209 -feet 300 feet in any street direction from the proposed location, on either side of the street. A street light request may be delayed due to lack of funds in a given budget year. The City Council and /or Public Works &upervissr Director must - 1 - 4
