City Council approval will be required in the following cases only; hazardouc and <br />ornamental requests beyond policy guidelines and non -Group V lighting, arterial and <br />deflector ctroot placement° any and all deviations from this policy, any and all cases not <br />covered by this policy. <br />The Public Works SupepAser Director may approve all locations which that do not <br />require City Council approval, and are consistent with this policy. <br />LOCATIONS CONSIDERED <br />A street light may be installed at every street intersection open for traffic in the City, <br />except in cases where the Public Works Supervisor Director determines adjacent street <br />lighting is adequate to cover an intersection or the low volumes of traffic and <br />pedestrians does not warrant the installation. <br />Mid -block street lights may be installed where the center line to center line distance <br />between cross streets is greater than 80G-feet 1200 feet, or less if sight distance <br />warrants and is determined necessary by the Public Works Superuisar Director. Lights <br />are not to be placed closer than 2504eet 600 feet apart. Mid -block lights shall be <br />placed between lots on the property lines whenever possible. <br />Lighting shall be installed at dead end streets or cul -de -sacs greater than 300 feet in <br />length. <br />Street lights may be considered if a specific safety hazard exists. The Public Works <br />Supervisor Director shall review the location specified and provide a recommendation to <br />the City Council. <br />A street light may be installed at marked cross walks if greater than 250 feet from an <br />intersection light or if determined to be a hazardous traffic location by the Public Works <br />Supeafiser Director. <br />Arterial and collector streets are to be considered on an individual basis. Type, size and <br />spacing of lights is-to should take into account such facts as traffic volume, turning <br />movements etc. Generally the light spacing and type should follow the attached city <br />standards or its equivalent but could be of higher wattage wattage standards may be <br />higher. <br />TYPES OF LIGHTING INSTALLED <br />Additional lights in already lighted areas will be of comparable size and type. The city <br />may choose to install a more efficient and /or effective type of luminaire. <br />-2- -5- <br />
