Ranson
Following a fire that occurred at 2600 Spruce Street on May 3, 2011, city staff has been
working with the occupants of the property to clean up fire damage decay and other
debris that exists on the site. The occupants of the home have been given ample time to
eliminate the nuisance on the property.
Given the extent of time that has already been allowed, this letter shall serve as the
official intent to abate violation notice from the City. I have copied below the sections of
the nuisance code this property is in violation of:
• City Code 601.030.i — Maintaining a Public Nuisance. An accumulation of tin
cans, bottles or trash or debris of any nature or description, and the throwing,
dumping, or depositing of any dead animals, manure, garbage, waste decaying
matter, ground, sand, stones, ashes, rubbish, tin cans, or other material of any kind
on private property. (See Photos)
• City Code 601.050.j - Maintaining a Public Nuisance. The piling, storing,
parking or keeping of old machinery, wrecked, junked or abandoned vehicles, and
other junk or debris. (See Photos)
• City Code 601.050.c — Maintaining a Public Nuisance. All buildings, walls,
and other structures which have been damaged by fire, decay or otherwise to an
extent exceeding one -half (1/2) their original value or which are so situated as to
endanger the safety of the public. (See Photos)
In the letter dated August 18, 2011, from our Building Official, Steve Westerhaus, this
clean up was originally to be completed by September 15, 2011 (letter attached).
However, additional time was granted and now the existing violations are required to be
1
