MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
FEBRUARY 9, 2012
Murphy stated that she would support the Variance with the change that
screening be a minimum of 6 feet in height and that Anderson would have
the choice of plantings or a fence.
Roberto stated that he did not want to see a movable fence. The City
Planner was not sure whether or not a movable fence would be allowed,
and suggested that the Building Official would have to comment on that
issue. Any fence constructed would have to meet the Code. The City
Clerk indicated that the Building Official can provide an opinion to the
City Council on that issue. Roberto stated that if a fence is used for
screening, his preference is that it be a permanent fence.
Duray recommended approval of the Variance to allow the storage of a
wood pile, boat with trailer, and utility trailer in the front yard of the
Derek Anderson property at 298 Rose Lane subject to compliance with the
recommendations of the City Planner as outlined in his report dated
February 3, 2012 with modifications to those recommendations as follows:
1. Firewood storage consists of no more than 4 cords of wood
and no more than 6 feet in height;
2. Planner's recommendation not modified;
3. Storage consists of one boat on a trailer and one utility
trailer with lengths each to be no more than 30 feet in
length and no more that 6 feet high;
4. Screening to consist of a line of shrubs along the front lot
line to screen the storage area from properties to the north
or a 6 -foot high fence that meets Building Code
requirements. Plantings should be at least 6 feet in height,
no more than 4 feet on center;
with the Commission declaring that the variance is supportable without
excessive impacts on the neighborhood and with the Commission
recommending adoption of the findings of fact as outlined in the City
Planner's report dated February 3, 2012.
Motion seconded by Murphy.
Motion carried 4 to 2. Duray, Fischer, Maleitzke, and Murphy in favor.
Barraelough and Hall against.
ZONING The City Planner reported that the City's Zoning Ordinance
ORDINANCE regulations relative to adult oriented businesses have been in effect for
AMENDMENT the past 15 to 20 years. Over the years the City has made some land use
amendments and updates to the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map,
therefore, there is the need to adjust zoning allowances and buffer
distances to ensure that the ordinance continues to meet legal standards.
- 14 -
