MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
FEBRUARY 9, 2012
three items. Roberto asked that this be clarified in writing. The City
Planner replied that his report provides that clarification.
In response to the photos provided by Roberto, Anderson indicated that
when he moved into this house two years ago, he placed items on the
property until he could identify an area for them. The matter did go to
code enforcement, and Anderson reported that he then cleaned the yard
up. Anderson noted that he has a fishing boat on a trailer, a utility trailer,
and fire wood storage he is requesting a Variance to store in the front yard.
He also has a log splitter, but indicated that could go in his rear yard.
Anderson again asked for leeway relative to the length of his boat and
trailer as he may purchase a longer boat in the future. The City Planner is
recommending a boat and trailer of up to 20 feet in length, while Anderson
is requesting 30 feet. Anderson also indicated that he would like another
trailer, and may in the future replace his existing utility trailer.
Duray stated that he did not have a problem allowing for a 30 foot long
boat and trailer or with the replacement of the existing utility trailer with
another one as long as it was replacing one utility trailer for another.
Duray did feel, however, that this area needed to be properly screened.
Maleitzke asked why the City Planner recommended the maximum length
of 20 feet. The Planner stated that he did not have a specific measurement
of the boat and trailer, but knows that 20 feet is common. The Planner
indicated that the 20 feet is a point to start the discussion about creating
limits. The Planner stated that he did not have a concern with a longer
boat and trailer provided it fits on the site and is screened.
Hall asked how specific the Variance conditions can be. The Planner
indicated that the City can adopt very specific conditions, and the
conditions should be reasonably necessary to mitigate any concerns that
the City might have.
Hall asked how close the eastern lot line of the Anderson property is to the
house. Anderson estimated a little over 10 feet and indicated that the tree
line is about 8 feet from the house. Hall asked about the picture that
Roberto provided showing the storage that was subject to Code
enforcement. Anderson noted that this is the area he is proposing to store
under his Variance request. He indicated that his boat and trailer are not
on his property at this time. Anderson indicated that the way he would
place the storage the neighbors would see the boat and trailer, but not the
wood pile or utility trailer.
Hall clarified that the Roberto backyard looks into the Anderson front
yard, and asked about the separation distance. Roberto replied that that
was correct, and noted that there is some distance between the two houses.
-9-
