MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MARCH 1, 2012 <br />PARK TREE <br />SALE <br />ENHANCE <br />FITNESS <br />YOUTH <br />ACTIVITIES <br />REGISTRATION <br />MARKET PLACE <br />MORNING <br />TALKS <br />LCRA <br />CASINO TRW <br />LCRA ICE <br />FISHING <br />CONTEST <br />LCRA <br />SPONSORSHIP <br />OF YOUTH TO <br />ATTEND <br />TIMERWOLVES <br />GAME <br />trees can be purchased for private use or purchased and donated to <br />to Ramsey County parks or parks within several communities. <br />The Director reported that the Little Canada Parks & Recreation <br />Department and UCare Minnesota are sponsoring a senior fitness program <br />called Enhance Fitness. The classes will be held Wednesdays and <br />Fridays, from March 7th through April 27th at the Old Fire Hall. UCare <br />members can participate free of charge, and all others are being asked for <br />$1 donation payable at class. <br />The Director reviewed the youth activities registration flyer with <br />summer offerings for tennis, golf, baseball, floor hockey, t -ball and <br />pop -up and softball. Registration is open on -line and flyers will be <br />distributed to local schools tomorrow. <br />The next Market Place Morning Talk is scheduled for Wednesday, <br />March 14 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Director indicated that the topic <br />is "Nutrition Tips and Ideas to Help You Eat Healthy and Keep Safe in <br />the Kitchen ". <br />The Director reported that the Little Canada Recreation Association will <br />be hosting its annual casino bus trip on Saturday, March 24th to Treasure <br />Island Casino. Barb Montour can be contacted for information as well as <br />to register. <br />Heikke reported that LCRA's first annual ice fishing contest was a <br />success. There were 375 registered fishing holes and 330 fisherpersons. <br />At one point there were close to 600 people on the ice. Heikke reported <br />that LCRA made a profit that will be used to continue their subsidies of <br />the City's recreational programs. The Little Canada Fire Relief <br />Association served food and made a profit. The event was very well <br />attended and feedback has been very positive. LCRA is looking forward <br />to hosting this event again. <br />The Director reported that LCRA recently sponsored a youth trip to attend <br />a Timberwolves game. The game was a good one and the youth attending <br />thoroughly enjoyed it. <br />Maida stated that he may be able to obtain tickets at no cost, and <br />suggested that the Rec Department contact him when they have another <br />trip in mind. The Director reported that he would pass that information on <br />to Don Bowman. <br />4 <br />
