Ranson
The City has received suggestions that we have document shredding available to
residents during the electronics - recycling day scheduled for Saturday, April 28. I have
spoken to one shredding company, First- Shred, and they said they can have a truck on
site for $200 per hour. The event is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. That would
make a total cost of $800 for shredding services. 1 will try to obtain pricing from some
additional shredding companies prior to Wednesday's meeting and see if there are any
more favorable rates.
Assuming the price will be around $800, staff is looking for direction on whether or not
to provide shredding services on April 28 and how to fund the shredding services. Some
options are:
a) Charge residents that choose to have documents shredded a fee based on the
amount of shredding they need.
b) Charge a flat fee per resident regardless of the amount of paper they have.
c) The City could pay for the service and make it a free service for residents.
Retrofit Recycling will once again be providing a truck and two workers to collect
electronics. Retrofit received a grant for electronics recycling that greatly reduces what
residents are charged for each item. This year anything with a screen (televisions,
monitors) any size will cost $5 to recycle. All other electronics (computers, radios,
printers, etc.) are free.
