MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 22, 2012
into conformance. McGraw indicated that while Mr. Anderson may have
voiced his opinion, if the City Council approves the Variance request,
there will be conditions. Roberto indicated that he would prefer not to
work through code enforcement process on these issues. Roberto pointed
out that the Anderson property is a large lot and the back yard is readily
accessible along the east side of the house. Roberto stated that he did not
agree with the City Planner's reports that there are unique slopes on the
property which preclude access to the rear yard. He noted that Anderson
indicated at the Planning Commission meeting his intention to obtain
another trailer and store it in the rear yard. Roberto stated that the
Variance is for convenience, and he would prefer the outdoor storage to be
limited to the wood pile.
Montour asked if Roberto was O.K. with the boat /trailer and the trailer
being stored on the driveway. Roberto felt that was a reasonable use of
the driveway, and indicated his preference that the boat /trailer then be
stored off site during the off season. Roberto pointed out that Anderson
could have multiple boats on the property and indicated at the Planning
Commission me may acquire a 4 -place trailer or RV which he would store
in the rear yard. Roberto also pointed out that Anderson has a huge yard
and it is very unsettling the amount of storage that could occur on the
property. He also indicated that a 30 foot boat is huge. Montour asked if
the boat storage was offensive. Roberto stated that his concern was with
the storage of a 30 foot boat. The City Administrator suggested that the
size limitation reference the actual boat allowing the ancillary equipment,
i.e. boat trailer and motor which could be 20 to 23 feet in length. He
suggested a maximum boat length of 20 feet. Roberto felt that the storage
of a 30 foot boat on the Anderson property would put his property at a
negative advantage if they were to sell their house. Montour pointed out
that there could be boat storage on the property across the street from
Roberto's. The Roberto's indicated that if the boat storage was on the
driveway and seasonable, they did not have a concern with it. Roberto
pointed out that storage on a driveway is limited by the size of the
driveway.
Amy Roberto again expressed concern relative to Anderson's comments at
the Planning commission about purchasing an additional boat and 4 -place
trailer and storing these items in his back yard. Amy Roberto questioned
why Anderson doesn't just store the boat /trailer and utility trailer that are a
part of this request in his back yard.
Roberto asked if the Fire Marshal would review the property. Montour
stated that the City can have a condition that the Fire Marshal look at the
property and bring it up to Fire Code standards.
10
