MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 22, 2012
Keis asked if Anderson heated his house with wood. Anderson replied
that he did, supplementing his standard furnace with a 3 foot by 3 foot
wood burner. Montour asked how many cords of wood are currently
stored on the property. Anderson replied that there are 2 cords.
Montour suggested that the boat be parked on the driveway during the
boating season. Anderson replied that parking the boat on the driveway
would block access to his garage door. If the boat is parked a stall away
from the garage, it would block the view of his natural plantings and
retaining wall. Anderson noted that the ground in the northeast corner of
the lot is level, and the area is not very visible.
Keis asked if 4 cords of wood were adequate. Anderson replied that 4
cords would do. McGraw asked the height of the wood pile, and if
Anderson would be agreeable to lowering it to a 4 foot height. Anderson
stated that the wood pile is currently 6 feet high and he would not have a
problem lowering it to 4 feet. Montour asked about re- orienting the wood
pile. Anderson indicated that he purchased the house 2 years ago, and
pointed out that the previous owner had a wood pile on the right -of -way.
Anderson indicated that he moved the wood pile off the right -of -way, to
keep it away from the sewer line that is behind the trees on the right -of-
way. Anderson pointed out that re- orienting the wood pile would make it
more visible. He also noted that the location he has provides for easier
access and keeps an area clear for snow storage.
Keis asked about the picture showing a duck boat and additional storage.
Anderson indicated that he is asking for storage for the wood pile, boat
and trailer, and utility trailer. The other items shown in the picture have
been removed from the property. Keis asked if those items would return
to the property. Anderson replied that they would not.
Sam and Amy Roberto, property owners to the north, reported that they
had concerns about the Variance request and handed out a narrative listing
the concerns as well as several pictures. Roberto pointed out that the front
yard of 298 Rose Lane is more visible than the rear yard, showing a
picture of the front yard view from Savage Lane. Roberto noted that, as a
result, the storage would be visible to anyone looking at the property from
Savage Lane and is not less visible than the back yard area as noted by the
City Planner. Roberto also pointed out the unique configuration of the
property in that the house faces an unimproved road. Roberto suggested
that Rose Lane could be constructed some time in the future. If so, the
storage would be abutting a street right -of -way.
The City Planner noted that the City has looked at the feasibility of
completing the construction of Rose Lane through to Savage Lane. It has
6
