MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
MARCH 8, 2012
Knudsen asked if all the vehicles parked outside were operable. Fischer
replied that they were.
Fischer indicated that the storage containers would be place in the fenced
open area on the east end of the building. Knudsen asked which way the
container doors would face. Fischer replied that they would face toward
the building. Fischer that the fenced area has slats in the fence for
screening, and only the gate area is not screened.
Duray asked if the containers would be 20 feet long. Fischer replied that
they would be. He indicated that they are cargo containers and have two
doors on one end.
Knudsen noted the Code provision cited in the Planner's report that the
containers must be painted to match or be complementary in color to the
principal building and shall be maintained to avoid rusting or other visible
deterioration of the container. Fischer reported that he would comply with
this Code requirement. He noted, however, that he would not be able to
paint the storage containers until the weather is wanner. Fischer also
indicated that he has not yet purchased the containers. The City Planner
felt it reasonable to allow Fischer time paint the storage containers once
the weather improves.
Knudsen asked if there would be hazardous materials on site or in the
storage containers. Fischer replied that there would not and that his leases
with his tenants call for not storage of hazardous materials on the property.
Duray noted the comment that Fischer would start with one container, but
wants the ability to have up to three. Fischer replied that that is correct.
He also noted that he would prime the containers and then paint them to
match or complement his building. Fischer stated that he is planning to
paint his building and has not yet decided on the color. Both the painting
of the building and the storage containers would be done this summer.
Knudsen noted that the Fire Marshal inspected the property and finds it to
be in compliance with the Fire Code.
Duray asked about the Planner's recommendation relative to licensing.
The City Planner indicated that this recommendation is to ensure that the
outdoor storage license includes the addition of the storage containers.
Duray felt the addition of the storage containers would keep the property
neat and orderly; therefore, he supported the amendment.
Duray recommended approval of the Amendment to Conditional Use
Permit for outdoor storage to include up to three storage containers at 200
-2-
