MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />FEBRUARY 2, 2012 <br />The Director indicated that he will contact the corrections group to <br />determine if they are interested in doing this work. He asked that Sanders <br />put a drawing together depicting the dimensions and finish grades for the <br />area to be cleared. <br />Fahey questioned that the area would be ready in time for 2012 Canadian <br />Days. Sanders indicated that if the clearing and grading work is done <br />early spring, the area can be seeded in May. A shady seed mix would be <br />used. Sanders felt the area would be usable by Canadian Days. The <br />Director noted that the area would not get a lot of foot traffic, so the grass <br />should be in good shape by Canadian Days. <br />Sullivan asked if the neighbors are aware of this project. The Director <br />indicated that he would contact the neighbors and inform them of the <br />project prior to its commencing. <br />Heikke asked about reforestation of the area. Sanders suggested that this <br />area could be tied in with the reforestation plans the City is putting <br />together to address the emerald ash borer. <br />COUNTRY Sanders presented a feasibility study for the Country Drive off - street <br />DRIVE sidewalk project reviewing the study in detail. Sanders reported that <br />TRAIL — the proposal is for 9,378 linear feet of sidewalk along Country Drive. He <br />FEASIBILITY reviewed the goals and objectives of the project which are: <br />REPORT <br />& COST Provide a safe alternative to the use of the street as a <br />ESTIMATE pedestrian and bicycle connection. <br />Provide improved pedestrian and bicycle facilities to support <br />the broad transportation and recreation goals of the City. <br />Sanders next reviewed the project inventory and analysis. The project <br />was broken down into five segments: <br />Segment 1 — Little Canada Road to Waterworks Trail. Existing <br />concrete sidewalk from Little Canada Road north on the west side <br />of Country Drive to where it meets the bituminous trail that <br />follows the Waterworks right -of -way to the northwest. <br />Segment 2 — Waterworks Trail to South Owasso Blvd. Existing <br />grade at Waterworks right -of -way and Country Drive is very steep. <br />Fill and grading needed to accommodate walk that would continue <br />to the north. Minimal issues with construction of a walk along this <br />segment. <br />Segment 3 — South Owasso Blvd. to the RR tracks. Going north <br />from South Owasso Blvd. there are issues with grade and <br />2 <br />
