MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R. Hanson
www. ci.little- canada, rnn. us
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Lisa Krieger, Customer Service Specialist
DATE: June 8, 2006
RE: Increase in Mechanical Permit Fees
City staff is recommending a fee increase to the Residential portion of the Mechanical Permit
Fee Schedule. The last fee increase occurred November 13, 1996. Attachment A shows our
current fee schedule. The fee increase would also allow us to restructure the fees for
furnaces and air conditioning. This will be less confusing for the customer. Attachment B
shows the recommended fee increases.
Upon researching by internet the surrounding cities, I found two different types of fees
schedules. Arden Hills, Vadnais Heights, and White Bear Lake have fees based on a
percentage of the project value. Little Canada, Maplewood, North St. Paul, Oakdale, and
Roseville have set fees for each type of work being done. The recommended fee increase
would put us more in line with the surrounding cities. Attachment C shows a cost example
comparing Little Canada to the surrounding cities and also shows the recommended increase.
Little Canada's Commercial Mechanical Permit fees fall in line with the surrounding cities as
shown in Attachment D, and it is staff's position that they not be adjusted at this time.
