515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ei.little- Canada.mn. us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk
DATE: June 22, 2006
RE: Ordinance Establishing Driveway Permit Requirement
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Based on the direction at the June 14Th Council meeting, attached is an ordinance
establishing permit requirements for new, reconstructed, expanded, or altered driveways.
The purpose for initiating a driveway permit requirement is to ensure that driveway
locations, curb cut number and widths, as well as drainage issues are addressed and meet
Code requirements. As you will recall, all of the surrounding cities have a driveway
permitting process in place specifically for these reasons.
The Building Official is recommending that the driveway permit fee be set at $25.00.
This fee will cover time spent in reviewing driveway site plans to ensure compliance with
the Code.
In addition to establishing a driveway permit requirement, this proposed ordinance also
eliminates a reference from Chapter 301, Uniform Building Code Adoption, dealing with
driveways. Given the City's driveway design standards outlined in Section 904.050.D.,
this reference appears to have no real purpose.
Staff recommends adoption of the proposed ordinance as submitted as well as
establishment of a driveway permit fee in the amount of $25.00.
