January 10, 2006
TO: Planning Commission
FROM: Janis Hess
2622 N. Edgerton Street
Little Canada, MN 55117
651 -482 -1032
I received the attached notification as I live in the vicinity of this property. I live
about 4 houses north on the east side of the street.
I am Neighborhood Crime Watch Block Captain for this area so I am familiar with
the property.
There used to be 2 homes in this area and the property was sold and the 2 homes
were torn down and one new home was built by Matt Galba.
I have only met Matt by accident as he was cutting through my backyard while I
happened to be out there one day. I know nothing about him — only his name. I
have not met his wife or any children.
I guess I would have no objection for his request to put in a Sport Court. (I know
about this product and you can play multiple games on it.) It is great that he wants
to provide a play area, I assume for his children. However if he is considering it be
used for league /team facilities for adults, that might be objectionable to his
neighbors across the street. He would need to consider off street parking as
Edgerton is considered a "No Parking" street because of the bike /walking path
except by special parking permits. I hope he would provide some kind of screening
such as some trees and /or bushes that would make it look nice for his neighbors to
have to look at. Also, depending how he would lay it out, he would certainly need
some kind of high fencing to keep balls, etc. from going into the street.
He put up a hockey pen this winter. It is nice looking. The weather hasn't really
been conducive to much skating this year as you can't keep ice so I haven't really
noticed much activity there.
Regarding his request for 2 garages, I think there may be some objections to those,
Matt mentioned that he had his own business when 1 briefly talked to him but I
don't know what kind of business. The piece of property is quite large and may
accommodate two extra garages in addition to the attached garage to the house, but
I feel these would be to house trucks and materials for his business mit don't feel
these would be appropriate in a residential arca — especially that this expensive lake
property. However I can't speak for any one else in the neighborhood and 1 am far
enough away so it wouldn't bother me any except seeing the garages when you
would drive by.
