The project involves placing about 25 cubic yards of sand in the
backyard of the residence, near the shoreline. The sand covers an area about 40 feet long and 15
feet wide. The area was vegetated with non - native weeds and grasses that were about 1' in
height. There was also a buckthorn that was 5' in height.
On Monday February 5, 2006, Travis Germundson from the DNR, met with you and me
on site to review the project. At the end of that meeting, Travis stated that the DNR would not
be opposed to the project.
During our phone conversation on Thursday Feb 9, 2006, you requested that we obtain a
grading permit from the City of Little Canada, and that I provide you with a letter describing our
projects compliance with the Intent of municipal code 1801.010. The grading permit application
will be filled out early next week. In addition , the rest of this letter will detail our compliance
with the intent of the municipal code.
Municipal code 1801.010 contains 5 points (a -e), describing the intent of the code. They
are listed below, along with the details of the projects compliance.
(a) To minimize health hazards by protecting surface and ground waters from pollution by
providing proper drainage.
The project does not significantly alter the existing drainage conditions. The scope of this
project does not include changing the topography of the land, no impervious surfaces are being
added and the slope of the lot toward the lake is very gradual.
