TAC Tour Discussion:
The TAC toured eight community buildings throughout the Twin Cities. Throughout the eight
tours there were 41 impressions from TAC members.
The buildings toured were Wakefield Park (Maplewood), Freedom Park (New Brighton),
Glacial Valley (Cottage Grove), Moore Lake Park (Fridley), Ojibway Park (Woodbury),
Vadnais Heights Commons (Vadnais Heights), Westwood Hills (St. Louis Park), Cedarholm
Golf Course (Roseville), John Hennen Pavillion (Lakeville).
Discussions regarding the positives and negatives of each building were discussed.

The TAC took a break at 8:54pm.
The TAC meeting resumed at 8:59pm.

Findings Discussion:
The TAC has gathered key findings of what they would like to see in the community building
and the area surrounding. They would like to see “maple leaf vibes”, historical items on
display, indoor and outdoor space, and they value the trees and vegetation. Inside they would
like to see two offices for recreation staff, rental space capacity of 120-150, separate
recreation programmable space and a small meeting room. Ample storage space for both
rentals and recreation is important. They would like a service kitchen with ample outlets and
counter space. They would like to see a 65-inch screen in the recreation space and two
larger projectors in the rental room. They would like an indoor and outdoor sound system,
public and private wifi, and high security including cameras and digital key pads. They would
like to see high end finishes that are durable including windows and window coverings, 14-18
ft high ceilings, acoustics and indoor/outdoor artwork. They would like to see ample outdoor
space for both the public and private rentals. They would like a loading area for rentals, nano
walls in the rental room, outdoor electrical access, stationary outdoor seating, and knee
height walls to separate the private space from public. They would also like to consider
sustainability in the design. Solar panels, energy efficiency, geothermal and the use of local
materials have been discussed.

Report Development:
Steve A shared an initial draft of the executive summary. The TAC decided to change the
specific action of rainwater harvesting to a broader concept of stormwater management. After
making that change, the TAC approved the executive summary.
Steve A shared that himself, Laura Linehan, Bryce Shearen and Monika Miller would be on
the report subcommittee. The report structure will be as follows
1. Background
2. Mission
3. Core Purposes
4. TAC Process
5. Executive Summary
6. Recommendations
7. Appendix

170
